So, the term ended on a high note with lots of fond memories and blissful moments. Every year students’ study hard and try to give their best at every level; from sports to extracurricular activities. It seems quite easy, is it so? Well, in reality, the road to success for students is full of challenges and surprises. Some problems even, if not dealt on time, follow students throughout their lives, making their life more challenging then ever. One such issue that students start having soon as they entered their teenage is – procrastination. The term which has a powerful bond with almost all of us; teachers, parents, adults, students etc. The art of delaying things and unable to complete specific tasks on its deadline is called procrastination. However, the question that puzzles me every year is how a person procrastinate when he/she completely aware about the importance and the completion deadline of a task allotted to him/her by their teacher, parent or boss? Anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts among teenagers become more and more common nowadays. What is the cause? Could it be social media or school stress in general? Last month during one of the One on One session, two of my students shares that sometimes they want to run away somewhere due to school work stress and unnecessary pressure from home. Incidents like these are not rare, According to JHH, around 37% of teenagers around the world are suffering from some sort of depression (most commonly due to school work), and the numbers are increasing. According to the JHH review, an estimated 3 million children between the age of 12 to 17 have had a major depressive episode in the past year alone. Read-Aloud Habit in Children May Increase Their Literacy and Articulation Skills

Last year, during my 8th-grade‘ parent-teacher meeting (PTM)’, the majority of parents shared serious concerns about their children’s reading habit. They believe that technology has ruined their children’s healthy lifestyle. Their children (age between 12 to 13 years) hardly even read a newspaper or a comic strip. Interestingly, they also have solutions like banning all their children tech gadgets, and cellular device at home will impact their children’s reading habit. I should have mentioned that my previous post about the role of technology in a child’s mental development was inspired by such PTMs where parents and even students bring their daily life issues and concerns to me.
